It should be that time of year again when all football fans are looking forward to the start of another new season after the summer break, with the bonus of an international tournament during this period.. However, Covid-19 has taken – and is still taking – its toll on the world, including football; although, thankfully, it is now slowly progressing in the right direction. As both the owner and manager, I speak on behalf of everyone at Coggeshall United Football Club in saying how excited we are about the forthcoming season as it is thought that fixtures will go ahead as normal.
The Club is growing and developing as we now have a number of teams that serve to demonstrate that we are progressing in the right way despite the many negative issues that Covid-19 has brought with it. Coggeshall United’s first, reserve and youth teams have served to create a clear pathway for young footballers seeking to make their way in the game that will create a positive foundation for both the short and long-term future of the Club.
All of our teams finished last season in excellent form and, despite the unexpected end to the last league campaign, most of our players have been retained and supplemented with a number of exciting players that have served to create greater strength in depth and competition ahead of the new campaign. Hopefully, we are heading into the new season with great confidence and optimism and I am so excited to see where all of our different teams finish. As well as adding new players to our fantastic teams, there has been a key addition to the club’s coaching staff. I am pleased to say that Sean Hickey has come on board as the reserve team’s manager and I believe that he will be tremendous in the role and Sean is also a great asset to the team’s development. We are also fortunated that we have been able to retain the services of the irreplaceable Graham Hirst as coach and Brian Sawyer as the first team’s assistant manager – their knowledge and experience remains absolutely vital for the Club’s continuing progress.
In fact, I would like to take the time to thank all of the managers and coaches that are involved with Coggeshall United’s teams and wish them all the very best for the new season. Lots of work is also taking place behind the scenes at the club during the summer and I would also like to offer my sincere thanks to all of our many volunteers for their efforts and commitment to Coggeshall United Football Club. A special thanks must go out to Graham and Christine Hilder who went above and beyond with all of the work that they did on the hospitality side of the club for the officials, players, coaching staff and supporters on match days. I would also like to extend a huge thank you and a great deal of my heartfelt appreciation to our highly-capable off-field team of Steve Townsend, Kevin Christmas, Andrew Douglas, Marcus and Amanda Tracey, Mason Sawyer and our media team, Gareth Davies and Georgia Turner (who will now be assisted by Kevin as well as Lewis Down) for the individual and collective contributions that they make to the Club. What a team we have, both on and off the field! Our club is moving forward with great spirit and togetherness and our teams continue to go from strength to strength with good people who encourage all involved to, first and foremost, always enjoy their football.
Good luck to all our teams for the season ahead (whenever it starts!) and I hope to see many of you throughout the season. Remember, we are UNITED! Come on you Weavers and best wishes! Oh, and please stay safe!
